Make time for what matters.
Choose a garden, not a checklist
Our base route visits the Lingering Garden. Editorial garden imagery does not specify admission to a particular garden. The Lingering Garden and Humble Administrator’s Garden are separate visits. Discuss your preference, but check tickets, timing and transport before changing gardens; both are not automatically included.
Temple and neighbourhood time
Combining Hanshan Temple, a garden and an evening in Wuxi creates a concentrated Suzhou visit. If you want time to sit or enjoy a fuller explanation, consider reducing same-day travel or adding a Suzhou overnight.
Walking conditions matter
Gardens and old streets may include steps, thresholds and uneven paving. A lower-walking plan needs appropriate entrances, exits, seating and a rain alternative, not just one fewer attraction. Wheelchair access should be checked section by section.
Where Suzhou fits
Shanghai and Suzhou combine city life with gardens on a shorter trip. Adding Hangzhou brings a lake and tea culture. Include Wuxi only if its experiences and the available time justify another transfer.

Shanghai, beyond the skyline
Look across the river from the Bund, then slow down over a neighbourhood meal. Make room for both the landmarks and the city between them.
