A little preparation goes a long way.
Leave room for finding the entrance, security, document checks and luggage.
Before leaving the hotel
Recheck station, date, train and original identity document. Save the order offline and keep luggage manageable. Decide who helps children and who handles larger bags before reaching the platform.
Allow a planning buffer
For an unfamiliar major station, 45–60 minutes early can be a useful planning buffer, with more for busy periods or assistance needs. This is advice, not a universal railway rule; follow the station and booking instructions for cutoffs and entrances.
If the gate cannot read your document
Carry the original valid document used for booking. If an automated gate cannot read it, ask staff about manual verification. Do not assume you need a paper ticket, and do not rely solely on a photograph of your document.
Plan the arrival end
Confirm the arrival exit and pickup location using the full station name. The next transfer should allow for getting off, leaving the station and finding the meeting point, not only the train’s scheduled arrival.
